In my time as a game reviewer, I’ve spent a lot of time on diatribes about how games need to be something more. But the problem is maybe that I’m giving games too much credit. I’ve written a lot about games and how they have changed our outlook. Yet from a realistic standpoint, reviews are about a few things. The first is summation and analysis, the second is recommendation. As such, I’ve decided to limit my words on any individual game. For all future reviews, they will be limited to five-hundred words, followed by a yes or no recommendation. There won’t be any maybes. What does this mean? Well for me, it means I can review a lot more games. It also means that you will see a much darker side, perhaps, to my views on games. Most games will simply not pass muster. Most games will not be recommended. Most games will not be talked about at length. Why? Quite simply, because most games do not deserve five-hundred words of analysis. In the words afforded any individual game, depth will be attempted, but the overarching goal is to eliminate waste. There are far too many reviews which simply devolve into word puke, because somebody’s getting paid-per-word.
