Well, 2010 on the WIi has arrived with a deafening roar of games being released in the first half of the year.
Nintendo of America held a media summit and announced a number of new games as well as updated release dates of some extremely hyped up games. Here's the full list:
March
Mega Man 10 (March 1)
Max and the Magic Marker (March 8 )
Cave Story (March 22)
WarioWare DIY DS and WiiWare (March 29)
DSiXL (the really, really big DSi comes out March 28)
April
Monster Hunter Tri from Capcom (bundled with or without Classic Controller Pro, works with WiiSpeak, has free online connectivity – April 20)
May
Picross 3D (May 3)
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (May 23)
June
Sin and Punishment: Star Successor (June 7)
Metroid: Other M (June 27)
100 Classic Books for DS (basically, a cheap DS based eReader for classic, public domain books – June 14)
These are just games that Nintendo is developing or publishing, remember. There's also games like Fragile Dreams and Red Steel 2 in March. All other games that are coming out in the second half of the year from Nintendo will be unveiled at E3 in August.
My take: a) FUCK YES. b) I was not expecting to see SMG2 and M:OM so soon, but that's great news nonetheless. I'm especially interested to see how this new Metroid will play; there's a playable copy at the summit, so reports should be rolling in soon. c) Basically, this summit was to say, "Oh, hey, we're Nintendo and we're here to punch your wallets right in the throat, so have fun with that." Seriously. And d) Of course, now we're left to wonder what will come in the second half of the year. Definitely the new Zelda game, but what else do they have up their sleeves? My money's on Pikmin, but you never know what those crafty blokes at Retro Studios might be up to.
