I'll do a longer post on this subject later, but for now I just thought I'd link to this article on Joystiq, where commenters are kind of up in arms about the fact that New Super Mario Bros. Wii has just outsold Super Mario Galaxy. I know, I know, one of them is more "original," but New Super Mario Bros. Wii is just as satisfyingly fun and challenging. I'm a big fan of 2D. It's what I grew up on. Anyways, more on that later. For now, check out the article and if you have something to say, post it in the comments!
Also, in my growing list of developers I dig, I have to make sure to add Gaijin games, makers of the Bit.Trip series. It's basically these really funky games with a throwback to Atari-era gaming set to fantastic chiptune music in a variety of genres. They just announced Bit.Trip Runner, which is supposed to be a "rhythm platformer." They haven't released any video footage yet, but when they do I'll pass it along! In the meantime, make sure to check out Bit.Trips Beat, Core, and Void… they all rule.
